Alice In Wonderland(2010) Movie Review

I saw the new "Alice in Wonderland" film yesterday and here is my review.

This film isn't so much a remake of Alice in Wonderland, it's more like a sequel. Alice has already been to Wonderland (or "Underland" as they call it) but she doesn't remember her last trip. The film starts out at an engagement party for Alice (even though she hasn't been engaged yet). Her "Boyfriend", some freakish crazy guy who is hilariously over-the-top weird, is going to propose. She leaves him kneeling and follows a white rabbit with a watch and falls down the hole into Underland. After some debate if she is the "real Alice", she is told that she must slay the Jabberwocky (a Dragon) to allow the white queen (Anne Hathaway)'s followers to rise against the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter)'s army. This film is mildly entertaining, and somewhat fun for kids, but it would have been easier (and better) to follow the original story.
To start, some of the acting is terrible. Johnny Depp's character could have easily been played by any actor, and he didn't bring anything special to the role. The girl who acted Alice, Mia Wasikowska, was wooden and didn't have any emotion. (Comparable to the gypsy girl in Harry Potter, even). And, probably the worst acting I've ever seen, Anne Hathaway. She is insultingly over the top, free of any expression, and boringly unpleasant in this film. The voice-over acting was good, but out-of-sync, and Helena Bonham Carter was cast right. The most entertaining part, probably, was Johnny Depp's F Fudderwupping dance, where everyone laughed a lot. This film is ok, but the acting and effects are dodgy. Anne Hathaway should get a golden Raspberry.

6/10
